Rap artist Silvana Imam had her breakthrough in Sweden in 2013, when she performed for an audience of 16 000 at an anti-racist demonstration. Today she’s Sweden’s rebellious queer icon, who fights the patriarchy together with her partner, pop star Beatrice Eli.
Directors Mika Gustafson, Olivia Kastebring and Christina Tsiobanelis have followed Silvana on gigs and in her private life from the year 2014. SILVANA is a portrayal of a serious and passionate artist, but it is also a love story. In the beginning an insecure and lost Silvana admires Beatrice from afar.
As the child of a Syrian father and Lithuanian mother, Silvana is also a model for people with immigrant backgrounds. However, representing many minorities can be hard work. In the film, Silvana is not only portrayed as an inspirational artist, but also as a human being who gets tired and needs love, just like everyone else.
